There are three main search engines.  Google is the number one search engine in the world followed YouTube.   The 2nd Largest Search Engine (Infographic) YouTube processes more than 3 billion searches a month. 100 hours of video are uploaded every minute. It's bigger than Bing, Yahoo!, Ask and AOL combined! 1.17 billion people are performing 11.944 billion searches monthly. Google has 67.5% of the U.S. search market and 87.1% of the mobile market. Nearly 60% search using their mobile device. 90% of users click on the first three results at the top of the search page. Is it possible for you to show up in an organic search and more importantly the first three results?  Following are some ways to improve and maximize your website’s SEO helping you to show up higher in the rankings.

Register your company name as your domain name. You would register these through such sites as Bluehost, GoDaddy, FatCow or Yahoo just to mention a few there are several other places as well. Create a minimum of 10  pages for your site. Some important pages to create are a Home Page, about us, product/service pages, contact info, pricing, testimonials or reviews, FAQs, newsletters, whitepapers, resources/articles, blog, media info, photo gallery, guarantees, return/refund policies, privacy policies and copyright info. Continually update your content.  Google likes to see new fresh content and this will help your SEO. More indexed pages by Google help your site’s SEO and ranking. Add a site map and submit it to Google, Bing and Yahoo for a link to improve your SEO. Use metatags and keywords on your pages. Metatags and keywords will help search engines find your pages, Meta descriptions can be any length, but search engines generally truncate snippets longer than 160 characters. It is best to keep meta descriptions long enough that they're sufficiently descriptive, but shorter than that 160-character limit. Google no longer uses them in their algorithm but this might entice customers to click through improving your SEO. Include keywords in the page metatag, title, header and throughout the page.  A title tag is an HTML element that specifies the title of a web page. Title tags are displayed on search engine results pages (SERPs) as the clickable headline for a given result, and are important for usability, SEO, and social sharing. Use keywords and phrases that people are searching for. Do a keyword search. It’s best, if possible, to use keywords people are searching but have a low or medium competition.  Use Google AdWords’ Keyword Planner, WordStream or Wordtracker. Include links to other businesses and request back links from them. This really helps SEO the more quality back links you have to your site and individual pages the more this will increase your SEO rankings. Register your site with Search Engines. There are 100’s.  If you don’t have the time you can have companies such as Manta do it for a small fee.  This will also help increase your sites’ SEO. You should also register all of your individual pages to further increase their SEO. List your site in business directories to help your SEO.  Keep in mind some directories require you to relist them every so many months.  To find these just do a search for search engines and business directories to list your site. The more quality traffic you can drive to your site the better it is for your SEO rankings.

Create social media pages Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube and Instagram.  You especially want to create a Google+ page, since its owned by Google, and link them to your site.  You want to post to these regularly.  You can post to several at a time through programs such as Hootsuite.

If you don’t have a blog add a blog to your site. You will want to post to this regularly as well, at least a couple times a week.   Relevant content helps SEO. Use keywords in the title and body of the blogs to improve their SEO. If the site will allow use #hashtags.  Every blog post adds an indexed page by Google which helps your SEO ranking. You can create a blog on Wordpress, web.com, weebly or many others. Be sure and link this to your web site.  Using SEM Blogging platforms like Yahoo or especially Google’s Blogger will further increase your indexed pages and SEO ranking.

Create a YouTube channel they are the second ranking search engine, right behind Google so add a videos page to your site. YouTube is owned by Google so this also helps your SEO.  Use keywords in the title, description and add up to 24 keyword categories in videos to improve their SEO.  Embed videos on your site. I have been told you want to have a minimum of 24 informative videos.  You don’t want to just sell on your videos you want to provide quality, informative, content.  What are your customers looking for or what might they like to learn?

Now you know of ways to improve your SEO.  You need to do all of the above on a continual basis.  I always recommend keeping a spread sheet of changes that you make or implement so that you can refer back and see what is or is not working.  Check your Google Analytics and Alexa rankings periodically.  If you don’t have the time or knowledge outsource it to someone who does.  It is very difficult to get in the top three spots in a search so you have to devote a lot of time and energy to get there unless you just happen to be very very lucky.

Best of luck to you.  I hope the above helped you out just a little.
